If you’re trying to access the latest news on TTV or log in to your banking portal outside of Taiwan, and you’re getting an error message, you’ve likely hit a geoblock. The only way to bypass it is by changing your IP address. We’re going to show you how to get a Taiwanese IP address.

An IP address is a set of numbers that tells websites and online services about your location. If you’re trying to access content restricted to Taiwan and your IP address doesn’t match, you won’t get in.

A Taiwanese IP address will unblock these restrictions, allowing you to watch Taiwanese streaming services, such as TTV, access your bank account from anywhere in the world and browse the internet as though you were in Taiwan.

The same goes for Netflix. If you’re a fan of the martial arts world and want to watch Pili Fantasy: War of Dragons or Cities of Last Things, you won’t be able to access the content without a Taiwanese IP address. Netflix imposes restrictions on content to meet the terms of copyright laws and territorial licensing. Our Netflix VPN ban article covers that in depth.

Netflix’s sophisticated detection system picks up on proxies and virtual private networks that can’t get around its filters and geoblocks. With an IP address from Taiwan, you can spoof your location and trick websites and other online services, including Netflix, into thinking you’re browsing or streaming from there. The safest way to get one is by using a VPN.

This quick guide on how to get a Taiwanese IP address will explain how a VPN can hide your IP address and recommend a few of our favorite picks from our best VPN reviews.

How to Get a Taiwanese IP Address

There are two ways to get a Taiwanese IP address: a proxy or a VPN. You can change your IP address with a proxy, but we don’t recommend doing so because proxies lack encryption and basic security features. They’re also unreliable, fail to offer online privacy and most have limited bandwidth and speed caps.

A VPN is the best and safest route as it’ll secure your connection and hide your real IP address to protect your privacy from the prying eyes of surveillance agencies and snoopers. VPNs also get around geoblocks and unblock streaming websites (see our Netflix proxy error article for more on that), so you can access the content you want.

Our VPN vs. proxy vs. Tor article explains the core differences between proxies and VPNs.

Not all VPN services are created equal, though, which is why we selected three of our best VPN providers to help you get an IP address from Taiwan.

ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is the best VPN because of its balance of security, usability, performance and privacy.  It’s the fastest VPN in our tests and ranks first in our best VPN for Netflix and most secure VPN guides. Its consistency sets it apart, which means you’ll have a great experience, no matter which server you choose or how you set up your connection.

Its large server network covers 94 countries, including Taiwan, which makes it a great choice for getting a Taiwanese IP address. You can install it on the major operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. It also offers browser extensions for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

ExpressVPN’s customer support is available 24/7, and its helpful staff provides thorough and fast responses via live chat and email.

You can learn more about the service in our ExpressVPN review or try it with its 30-day money-back guarantee.

NordVPN

NordVPN has a massive network, which makes it a great choice for getting a Taiwanese IP address. It isn’t as consistent as ExpressVPN, but it’s much better for certain activities, such as torrenting. Read our ExpressVPN vs. NordVPN comparison to learn more, and check out our best VPN for torrenting piece.

NordVPN’s features include a built-in malware blocking tool, specialty servers, Double VPN and an attractive interface. You can find the full list of features in our NordVPN review.

Its speeds are good and bandwidth is unlimited, but it can be slow when connecting over long distances. You can install it on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. Customer support is available via email or live chat, but you can use the knowledgebase to fix minor issues on your own.

NordVPN offers an affordable monthly rate, but subscribing to a longer plan will save you money. You can take it for a spin with its 30-day money-back guarantee.

CyberGhost

CyberGhost is another good VPN for getting a Taiwanese IP address because it has over 3,700 servers, 10 of which are in Taiwan. It has specialty servers for streaming and torrenting, good security, a solid interface and a low price. Plus, its no-logging policy means your privacy is respected because it doesn’t keep a record of your online activities.

Dangers of Using a Taiwanese IP Address

Taiwan’s internet services aren’t restricted. According to a 2019 Freedom House report, its media environment is one of the freest in Asia, with a score of 93 out of 100, so there’s no danger in using a Taiwanese IP address.

Its government provides robust protections for civil liberties and there are no strict censorship blocks. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t worry about your online privacy and anonymity, though, especially with the rise of public WiFi hotspots and the danger of cybercrime.

With a VPN, you can stream content on Netflix, access your bank account and other online services, protect your privacy and secure your WiFi connection.

Final Thoughts

We hope this guide has eased the process of getting a Taiwanese IP address. A proxy may get you one, but it won’t protect your identity online. With a VPN, you’ll appear as though you’re in Taiwan, your identity and real IP address will be protected and you’ll be able to bypass geoblocks.
