Weblium Review

Weblium is a service that's still developing, with all the good and bad that implies. It's cheap, has a great AI-driven tool and its devs are open to suggestion. On the other hand, not everything you'd like to be there is and it feels a bit unfinished. Read our full Weblium review for the details.

Launched a year ago, Weblium is a new player in the website builder market. The software isn’t complete, mainly because some of the features aren’t fleshed out. That’s a double-edged sword, though.

It’s bad because you don’t get all the features you’d get with a behemoth such as Wix. If you want the all-inclusive package and you’re not on a budget, check out our Wix review. It’s good that Weblium’s features aren’t fleshed out because the software will evolve with you. You can suggest features for the developers to implement and be part of the service’s growth.

That’s not enough to convince people to buy it. People will want to use it because it’s inexpensive and has an innovative AI design tool. That isn’t necessarily enough to rank it among our best website builders, but there are things to praise about the builder. Read on to find out if it’s right for you in this Weblium review.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths:

  • Beautiful
  • Good templates
  • AI design tool

Weaknesses:

  • Lacks features
  • New

Features

70 % – Decent

Weblium relies on design to stand out from the crowd. Because of that, it’s good at aesthetics, but the features aren’t deep enough.

Weblium Store

Weblium’s ecommerce functionality is limited. If selling online is something you want, steer clear. You can create product pages and upload catalogs, but only in certain templates. Even then, you can’t sell anything online. Your visitors just place orders with forms and you fulfill them by other means.

weblium-store-form

As you can see, Weblium’s not a viable option. It doesn’t compare to systems in which people can pay by PayPal, credit card or Stripe.

Weblium Blogging

Weblium doesn’t feature a blogging tool per se. If you want to blog, you can add blog posts from the blocks section and embed a link to a page. You then edit that page with text blocks to make it into a blog post. It’s cumbersome, hard and counterintuitive. Add the lack of a search engine optimization tool into the mix and you’re guaranteed not to tap into organic traffic.

Weblium Code Editor

Weblium’s code editor is versatile and easy to use. To start coding, you just have to insert a code block. The editor supports HTML, CSS or JavaScript, which is a big variety compared to the market standard. Most builders only let you do HTML and CSS.

This versatility opens a lot of possibilities. Wherever features are lacking, you can get someone to edit things in and out if you’re not good at coding. Such collaborations are easy to do because Weblium has a commenting and sharing system, perfect for hiring a freelancer to do quick mods for you.

If you can code and want to mix that with a drag-and-drop experience, try Mobirise. It’s an unorthodox website builder, though, so read our Mobirise review first.

Weblium AI Design

The selling point of Weblium, and its most innovative feature, is the AI-driven design aid.

weblium-ai

It isn’t a feature you’ll have to bother with, though. In fact, you won’t have to do anything. Weblium’s AI system runs in the background of every website and adjusts their designs to improve mobile responsiveness and aesthetics.

Moreover, this tool does it’s job on already beautiful pre-made blocks and tools.

That’s especially important because design is hard. Not everybody has an eye for it, and even when you’re good at contrasting colors and sizing elements the right way, there’s a lot of work involved. Weblium takes care of that and lets you work more efficiently.

Weblium’s Basic plan is great for trying the tool to see if it’s right for you. It has unlimited bandwidth and storage, but it doesn’t have a lot of editing options or an SEO tool. All in all, though, it should work well for a portfolio or CV website.

The Pro plan is the only paid option that’s always available. It has the editing options of the vanilla version, but it also brings an SSL certificate, a domain and SEO and marketing tools to the table. For only $10.50 per month, it’s a good choice if you’re not working with a huge budget and love Weblium’s templates.

It’s not clear what the Agency plan offers, which is why it doesn’t have a set price. Because Weblium is a new platform, its bigger clients require specific upgrades and functionalities that aren’t worth implementing for all users, so it sets prices on a case by case basis.

If you want something with clearly defined price ranges, Weebly. It’s a good all-around builder. For more information, read our Weebly review.

Design & Tools

90 % – Excellent

As for design in website builders, Weblium is only behind Squarespace, with beautiful templates and an innovative AI design tool. Squarespace isn’t that innovative, but it has awesome design, so check out our Squarespace review, as well.

Tools and functionalities are a different subject. Weblium’s editor is not deep, so it’s hard to start with a website layout in mind and make it turn out that way. You can’t place blocks anywhere you want, some color combinations aren’t available and you can only implement hovers if you code.

On the other hand, if you just want an online presence and don’t have a website layout in mind, Weblium can work like a charm. To get that good-looking website, you’ll do a lot of on-page edits, though.

weblium-on-page

That’s the tool you’ll use the most. Because you start with a template, you won’t need to add a lot of elements, but rather edit the existing ones. Everything you can do on-page is self-explanatory, so resizing images or changing fonts will be easy.

On top of that, different sections have premade items that you can add to them. For example, a schedule block lets you add time tags and entries that are automatically formatted to fit in the block.

The tool you’ll use second most often is the “add block” section. Clicking it sends you to a screen with a lot of premade elements, such as schedules, forms and “about us” sections.

weblium-add

Because those options are on a different screen, your editor is decluttered and clean, which means some people will have an easier time navigating the software. On the other hand, going from screen to screen to add elements breaks the workflow, so some users will have a hard time keeping track of the big picture. It depends on how you like to work.

Because there’s such a variety of elements, the developers included a search engine to quickly browse through blocks. After using it, it’s clear that more builders should include such a feature because it makes your job easier.

Besides those important aspects, another cool thing is that you can embed code anywhere on a page, which means you can do SEO in theory, even if there’s no tool for the vanilla version, but it’s hard. Regardless, custom editing blocks is easier thanks to the embed feature, which is a big plus on its own.

Finally, because Weblium is new on the market, you can request blocks from the developers. The process of deciding what to make and what to include in the editor isn’t clear, but that’s an outstanding policy nonetheless.

The “site style” tab covers options about aesthetics.

weblium-site-style

You can do two things there. First, you can edit text in text sets, so when you insert a text box, you can just choose the set and get to writing. The changes are global, but you can use individual variations on a case by case basis.

Second, you can edit color palettes. While that means you can give a custom look to your website, the customizability is limited. You can’t add new colors. You’re limited to the few dozen options on the website. That’s a huge limitation for design.

A comments system is available, but unless you need advanced modifications and can afford a developer, you won’t need it.

If you do work with someone on your website, the comments system is great. You can add a comment anywhere on your website, so advanced edits, such as making a button hover or cropping a few pixels from an element, are easy to highlight.

The “preview” tab is easy to use. Whenever you access it, you’ll see that all templates are responsive and optimized for mobile. It would’ve been a complete tool if you allowed you to prevent elements from showing on certain screens, but maybe Weblium will implement that in the future.

Plus, you get a full revision history as long as you’re still in the same session. That’s a great aid to optimize your workflow.

Finally, if you have the budget, you can just forget you read this because you can commission Weblium specialists to design a website for you. The service comes for as low as $50, so it’s a decent choice for most users.

Ease of Use

85 % – Very Good

If you decide to take things into your own hands, Weblium is easy to use.

Some people will have a hard time with it if they’re used to accessing everything from one spot because the screen is decluttered, with only the most important options displayed.

That coin has two sides, though. While those used to dragging blocks and editing blog posts from the same place will need to adjust to Weblium, a decluttered screen means an optimized workflow for most people.

To top it all, coding is easy to do, as well. The developer interface is beautiful and just as clean as the rest of the interface.

Most users should have an easy time working with Weblium. That said, If you want something easier to use, read our SiteBuilder review.

Support

75 % – Good

Support is where you can see that Weblium is new to the market.

The help center isn’t well-developed, with just 61 uncategorized tutorials and Q&As. A plus for some users will be that the help center is also in Russian, but most people need a quality English version to get by.

If you need to get in contact with the developers, there’s a chat box on screen at all times. That’s common, but an awesome thing about Weblium’s chat box is that you can access the help center from the same place. That makes it much easier to get help without breaking your workflow.

weblium-chat

Finally, because Weblium is so new, there’s no community around the tool. That means no forum or community support, which is fundamental to navigating specific problems, such as incompatibilities between the tool and certain devices, faster.

That said, because Weblium is so easy to use, the available support should be enough. To learn about a service that provides awesome support, read our Site123 review.

The Verdict

Weblium is a great tool. It’s easy to use, inexpensive and has awesome design. The blogging, SEO and e-commerce capabilities are limited, even if you do get excellent design.
