NordVPN is one of the best VPN services around, going toe to toe with our top dog, ExpressVPN (read our ExpressVPN review). It’s easy to see why, too. This VPN has some of the fastest speeds we’ve seen, along with top-notch security. Even with that, though, another VPN may be right for you. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to cancel NordVPN and get your refund.

Whether you’re unhappy with the VPN because of connection problems or something else, here’s how to take advantage of the 30-day money-back guarantee. If you’re still on the fence about cancelling, be sure to read our NordVPN review to see why we rate it so highly.

Step 1: Log in to Your Account

Head to NordVPN.com and click “login” in the top-right corner. On the next page, enter your email address and password, and wait until you’re redirected to your account dashboard.

Step 2: Stop Auto-Renew

After you log in, you’ll land in the dashboard. NordVPN automatically renews, unlike Mullvad, so you’ll need to cancel automatic payments before doing anything else (read our Mullvad review). To do so, click on the three dots next to your subscription under the “my services” header. Click on the button to stop automatic payments.

Step 3: Ask for a Refund

After you’ve dealt with the automatic payments, click on the small circle in the bottom-right corner of the screen. This will open the support panel. At the bottom of the panel, click on “chat” to start the live chat session. Type that you’d like to cancel your account and receive a refund, and start the chat session.

In the many times we’ve tested NordVPN, we’ve never received any haggling from the support staff. The VPN has a no-questions-asked 30-day money-back guarantee, so simply asking for a refund is usually enough. If you prefer a paper trail, you can always send an email to the support team, too, but it might take a little longer.

How to Cancel NordVPN and Get a Refund

  1. Log in to your account
  2. Under “my services,” click on the three dots next to your plan
  3. Cancel renewal
  4. Open live chat
  5. Ask the live chat rep to cancel your account and process a refund
  6. Wait a few days for your refund to show up

How to Change Your NordVPN Plan

If you want to switch to a different billing cycle rather than cancel, you can. That said, the process is a little different. Log in to your account and go to your account dashboard. Next to your subscription, instead of clicking the three dots, click on “change plan.”

The “change plan” button will bring you to a checkout page with NordVPN’s three billing durations. If you want to subscribe for the long haul and receive the biggest discount, select the three-year option. If money is tight, the monthly option may work better. No matter which one you need, click the new plan you want, enter your payment information and complete the checkout process.

Can I Get a Refund on NordVPN?

NordVPN offers a generous money-back guarantee. You have a full 30 days to cancel the service to receive a refund, just shy of CyberGhost’s 45-day window (read our NordVPN vs CyberGhost comparison and CyberGhost review). If money is tight and you want to cancel, follow the steps above to get your money back.

Can You Cancel NordVPN’s Three-Year Plan?

No matter if you buy one month or three years, the same refund policy applies. So, in short, yes, you can cancel the three-year plan. However, if you’re outside of the refund window, you won’t receive any money back, even if you have time remaining on your subscription. Likewise, if you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play store, you’ll need to reach out to Google or Apple for a refund.

Final Thoughts

NordVPN, despite being the king of torrenting, isn’t the right service for everyone. Thankfully, getting your money back is simple as long as you ask within the first 30 days of service. We’d recommend asking over chat, though. Email is fine, but it can take a few extra days for the money to show up in your account.
