The Best VPN with Dedicated IPs in 2020: Bypassing the Blacklist

Although internet service providers assign a unique IP address to each device you connect, in most cases it will be a dynamic one, meaning it can change each time you connect to the network. VPNs allocate dynamic IPs, too, but they’re shared with other users.

A dedicated IP is a static one. It won’t change, and it’s only assigned to you. They can be beneficial in many circumstances, such as bypassing streaming roadblocks. Plus, they offer more reliability and stability than a shared IP address, and most VPN providers offer them as an add-on.

If you’re not into the whole reading malarky, it’s best if you go right ahead and install NordVPN. It’s a great all-round VPN with good, dedicated IP options.

NordVPN also comes with excellent security, much like our most secure VPN, ExpressVPN, as you can read in our ExpressVPN vs. NordVPN comparison. However, ExpressVPN won’t get a spot in this article because it doesn’t offer dedicated IP addresses.

Keep reading, though, for more virtual private network recommendations. Plus, we’ll explain the difference between dynamic, static and dedicated IPs, the advantages and disadvantages of having a dedicated IP, and what criteria you should look for in a dedicated IP VPN.

The Best VPN With Dedicated IPs

  1. NordVPN
  2. CyberGhost
  3. Astrill
  4. VPNArea
  5. TorGuard

1. NordVPN

NordVPN is a great choice if you’re after a dedicated IP address, and it’s one of our best VPN providers overall. You can choose from an IP in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and France.

Each dedicated IP address costs $70 per year, along with your NordVPN subscription. The upfront cost is the only price we can see, though, so if you’re after a monthly bill, you should scroll to our second option, CyberGhost.

Along with your dedicated IP, NordVPN offers many other features. It’s a reliable service and you’ll be protected by some of the best security on the market.

Plus, in addition to NordVPN’s thousands of regular servers, you can also use its double-hop servers for extra protection. There’s a strict no-logs policy in place, too. Read our NordVPN review for more details.

It has good speeds, though they can become slower when connecting to distant servers. You get unlimited bandwidth, and it’s capable of getting into most streaming platforms, earning it the second spot in our best VPN for streaming piece. Additionally, it’s easy to use, and you can install it on six devices simultaneously, including Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.

Along with the annual $70 for a NordVPN dedicated IP, you’ll also need to pay for a basic subscription, and thankfully it’s good value for money. You get the best price on its long-term plans, though, which is great considering you’ll need at least a year with the static IP. Still, there’s a 30-day refund window, in case you don’t like it, and you can pay using cryptocurrency.

Pros:

  • Excellent security
  • Inexpensive multi-year plans
  • Accesses all streaming platforms

Cons:

  • Dedicated IPs only available at annual cost
  • Only five dedicated IP locations
  • Inconsistent speeds

2. CyberGhost

CyberGhost is another decent VPN provider that can supply you with a dedicated IP address in the U.S., the UK, France, Germany and Canada. Adding one will cost an additional $5 per month to your regular subscription. Once you’ve purchased one, it’ll be listed in the “favorites” section in the CyberGhost app, so you can switch easily.

It comes with great security and doesn’t keep logs. You’ll also have access to its huge server network if you need to connect to a different country, as well as its streaming and torrenting servers. Its speeds are fast, though they can get slower over long distances, like NordVPN does. There are no bandwidth restrictions, and it is capable of accessing all streaming platforms.

CyberGhost allows up to seven simultaneous connections, and it’s compatible with all the major operating systems, providing an easy-to-use interface for them all. Read more in our CyberGhost review, and see how it compares to our top pick in our NordVPN vs CyberGhost piece.

It’s an inexpensive VPN service, with the bonus of a monthly rate, unlike NordVPN. However, the regular subscription works out cheaper on longer plans, and if you opt for one of those, you’ll need to pay for the entire cost of the CyberGhost dedicated IP upfront.

A seven-day free trial is available for Android and iOS if you just want to check out the service. Otherwise, there’s a money-back guarantee to fall back on. You can pay via BitPay for extra anonymity, too.

Pros:

  • Cheap monthly cost for dedicated IPs
  • 7 simultaneous connections
  • Inexpensive

Cons:

  • Dedicated IPs only available in 5 countries
  • Can be slow

3. Astrill

Astrill is another provider that offers dedicated IP addresses, and it comes with a ton of choices. Personal static IP addresses are available in multiple locations within the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Russia, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea and China (though we’re not sure why you’d want one within the Great Firewall). They cost just $5 each per month.

You also get good security with many protocol options. It has a no-logs policy, but some information can be kept for the “technical function of the services.” That includes things like connection records and your IP address, which may be an issue if you’ve got a personal one. Read our Astrill review for more on that.

Astrill has shared servers in 62 countries, in case you need a different one. It also has fast speeds, unlimited bandwidth and can get into some streaming services, as well. Its interface is annoyingly small, but it’s simple and you can use it on most of the major operating systems. It’ll also allow up to five connections at the same time.

Although Astrill has a lot more choices for dedicated IP locations, its price lets it down completely. The monthly cost is extortionate, being $20 per month at the time of writing, and that’s not including the private IP.

The annual subscription halves that price tag, but when compared to our top choices, that’s still pretty bad, especially as they’re better VPN providers overall.

Pros:

  • Cheap monthly cost for dedicated IPs
  • Multiple locations offered
  • Fast

Cons:

  • Expensive subscription
  • Difficult to use
  • No refund policy

4. VPNArea

Next up is VPNArea. It has a good range of dedicated IP regions to choose from, including multiple locations in the U.S. and Europe, as well as the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

However, the cost of each dedicated IP depends on the location you pick. For example, those within the U.S. cost $20 annually, but if you choose one in Australia, it’s $44. That’s still not bad, though, coming in at less than $4 per month.

They’re only available with the 12- or 36-month plans, though, and you won’t see any savings on the personal IP for choosing a longer period.

VPNArea also says it’ll throw in a free private VPN server with your dedicated IP address, and it claims to be the only provider to do so. Having a private virtual server means you won’t have to share speeds with other users; you’ll have full control over it.

VPNArea’s Other Features

A no-logs policy is in place, its security is good and, like NordVPN, it includes the use of double-hop servers, if you choose. Regular servers are available in 65 countries, in case you need them.

VPNArea can get into many streaming services and comes with unlimited bandwidth, but it has slow speeds, so it may not be the best choice for such a task. Its interface is easy to use, and it’s compatible with most operating systems. Plus, you can have up to six devices connected at the same time. Read more in our VPNArea review.

It’s an inexpensive service and the longer plans work out cheaper in the end. You can pay with bitcoin if you’re after that extra bit of privacy. Plus, there’s a 30-day money-back guarantee in place, in case you’re not happy.

Pros:

  • Cheap annual cost for dedicated IPs
  • Inexpensive plans
  • Free private VPN server included

Cons:

  • Slow speeds
  • No monthly option for dedicated IPs
  • Cost varies

5. TorGuard

Our last pick is TorGuard, which is surprising considering it has a ton of options for dedicated IPs, but it’s lacking in other areas. You can choose a TorGuard dedicated IP in multiple European countries, with rare choices, such as Iceland, as well as locations in North and South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

torguard-slider2

You can also choose a residential IP, so you look like you’re connecting from home, as well as a premium 10Gbps network IP or a denial-of-service IP aimed at protecting gamers against DDoS attacks.

TorGuard also sells this service by advertising its streaming and sports dedicated IPs. Although we didn’t need a dedicated IP for Netflix, if you want to get into any other streaming service, you’ll need one. We tested its regular servers for our TorGuard review and were blocked from other major platforms each time.

Charging extra for a dedicated IP is perfectly fine, but other VPN services, such as ExpressVPN and Windscribe, include streaming servers within the basic package. Granted, TorGuard’s streaming servers are not shared with any other user, but other VPNs still do the job of getting you in there, and do it well.

TorGuard’s Other Features and Price

Its security is on par with the rest of the market, and there are a lot of options to choose from. Techies will love the customizability, but regular users may struggle to get to grips with the outdated interface.

TorGuard’s speeds are mostly fast, but they do vary by location, with some servers being so slow they’re practically unusable. There’s no bandwidth limit, and you can connect up to five devices at a time with the option of adding up to 20 more at $1 each per month.

The privacy policy states that it does not log information. However, if you’re looking for a totally anonymous signup, TorGuard isn’t the one for you.

Paying by credit card requires your billing information, which seems normal, but TorGuard does state that the information can be kept and that it will be shared if required to do so by law. Even paying via cryptocurrency could require billing information.

TorGuard is pretty inexpensive, even though it doesn’t offer plans longer than one year. All of its dedicated IPs have the same $7.99 per month price tag, though TorGuard does offer a discount on them with longer plans. There’s a seven-day money-back guarantee, too.

Pros:

  • Wide coverage for dedicated IP locations
  • Residential, fast & gaming IP options
  • Inexpensive

Cons:

  • Have to pay for streaming servers
  • Difficult to use
  • Not for the privacy-conscious user

What Is a Dedicated IP Address?

For you to fully understand what a dedicated IP address is, you need to understand the difference between a dedicated IP, a static IP and a dynamic IP address.

By default, when you connect to a VPN service, it’ll assign you a dynamic IP address. That IP address may change every time you connect, but it will have been assigned to hundreds of other users who are using the service, too. A static IP is only different because the actual IP address doesn’t change, but it can still be distributed to many other users.

There’s nothing wrong with either of those, and there are some advantages. For example, with so many other people using the same IP, it’s hard to work out who has done what. However, a shared IP can offer great anonymity, but there are some occasions in which using a shared IP address just doesn’t cut it.

A dedicated IP address works the same way as any other, but it doesn’t change and it’s unique to you. You’ll never share the same IP address with another user. It won’t be as discreet, but using a static dedicated IP can save you a lot of hassle in certain circumstances.

What Is the Advantage of Having a Dedicated IP?

Dedicated IP addresses have quite a few advantages. For one, if you run an online business or website, having an IP address that stays the same and is only for your personal use can help prevent someone from accessing your system or accounts. As an administrator, you can set up a list of authorized IP addresses so that only those that match can log in.

They can also be helpful when it comes to logging in to your financial accounts. For example, if you regularly log in to your bank from a different IP address, the bank may see it as suspicious activity and restrict access. Using a dedicated IP address will ensure that you don’t encounter that problem.

A downside to using a shared IP address is that they can often be blacklisted on certain websites because of the actions of other users. It’s sometimes referred to as the “bad neighbor effect.” You can’t control what other users are doing, and if you’re blocked from a site or service, you’ll have to change the VPN server to get a different shared IP address.

Bypassing Geoblocks and VPN Blocks With a Dedicated IP

Dedicated IPs can help you bypass geoblocks and the VPN blocks that are put into place by streaming services. Take Netflix, for instance. It’s available in more than 190 countries, but each country has a different content library.

Let’s say you’re outside of the U.S., but you want to watch a show that’s exclusive to the U.S. audience. To watch it, you’ll need to spoof your location and access the American version.

Most VPNs can help you get a U.S. IP address, but not all of them can bypass Netflix’s VPN detectors. For that reason, you’ll need to choose one that is capable of breaking through, and our best VPN for Netflix guide includes the VPNs that are up to the task.

However, choosing one that offers a dedicated IP address will offer more stability, too, because it’ll always be in the same location. If you’ve permanently moved from your home country, a dedicated IP address in that location will ensure that you can consistently access the services and websites you’re used to.

The Disadvantages of Using a Dedicated IP Address

As much as there are some great advantages that come with using a dedicated IP address, there are some disadvantages, too. If your online shenanigans are a little on the dodgy side, or if you’re privacy-conscious, a dedicated IP address might not be a good option.

That’s because although most VPN services don’t keep activity logs, the dedicated IP address is tied solely to you. Even though there wouldn’t be a recorded activity log, authorities could obtain the subscriber information for the IP address.

Shared IP addresses are favored because of the anonymity that comes with them. Many users can have the same address, so authorities can’t tell who did what, unless the provider keeps logs. Plus, with online surveillance increasing around the world, more users are trying to stay under the radar.

There are a few things you can do to stay anonymous even with a dedicated IP address, though. You need to choose a VPN provider that not only doesn’t keep logs, but also lets you sign up with a throw away email and use cryptocurrency as payment.

How to Choose the Best VPN for a Dedicated IP Address

Besides the VPN actually offering dedicated IP addresses, there are a few other factors to consider, too. During our reviews, we found that, although most providers include the following features, some implement them better than others, and that helped us with the rankings.

Security and Privacy

Whether you’re using a dedicated IP address or not, online security and privacy should be a priority when it comes to choosing a VPN. Good security will ensure that you’re protected from online dangers, such as cybercrime. You should also make sure it doesn’t keep usage logs so there’s no record of your online activities.

Plus, if you want to stay completely anonymous, you should use a throwaway email and cryptocurrency to sign up. Unfortunately, though, not all providers allow both of those methods.

Speed and Bandwidth

The VPN’s speed and bandwidth allowance are important, especially for some activities. Fast speeds will mean you spend less time waiting for content to load, and unlimited bandwidth means you download or stream as much as you like. If you choose one that has a data cap and you reach it, the VPN will stop working, rendering your dedicated IP useless.

Dedicated IP Locations

Whether you need a specific location for your dedicated IP will depend on what you need it for. If you only want one for reliability and stability, then you could take your pick of the herd. However, if you’re planning to get access to country-specific content, you’ll need to make sure the VPN has a dedicated IP in that location.

Accessing Streaming Services

If one of your top reasons for getting a personal static IP address is to access a particular streaming service, then you should make sure that the VPN can actually do so. Many streaming services have VPN blocks in place, and there are only so many that are able to bypass the blocks.

Ease of Use and Devices

If you’re a techy person, you might find even some of the most difficult VPN clients to be a walk in the park. However, if you have less experience with them, you’ll be thankful for a simple setup and easy interface.

Plus, you might want to check what devices the VPN can be used with. Most cover popular operating systems like Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, but some have a more detailed list to look through.

Price

In order for you to have a dedicated IP, you’re first going to need to sign up for the VPN’s basic plan. Some carry a heftier price tag than others, so make sure you’re happy with that, along with the cost of the dedicated IP address on top.

Final Thoughts

We hope we’ve helped you determine the difference between dynamic, static and dedicated IP addresses, as well as which is the best VPN with dedicated IPs for you. The one you choose will depend on what you need it for. Perhaps you want one to easily access streaming services, or maybe you want one for reliability.

Whatever your reason, we’ve picked NordVPN as the winner because of its excellent security and privacy, as well as its ability to get into streaming platforms. Plus, you get a fair choice of locations that — provided you don’t need a different specific country — will get you what you need. NordVPN has a 30-day refund period, for peace of mind.
